BEES

A swarm of bees has made themselves at home in the roof of the de Dam farmhouse.

VEGETABLES

A combination of horse and cattle manure mixed with minerals and garden refuse are used to provide compost for the gardens.

PEST CONTROL

Owl houses have been erected on all farms to encourage the owl population growth to keep the mouse population at bay.

BATS

Numerous bats are nesting in the roofs of the farmhouses. Bat boxes have been erected to encourage the bats to move from the roof to their new modern home.
DE DAM

In the early 1900’s the farm De Dam was one of forty farms (covering an area of
300 square miles) in Colesberg’s Hantam area which belonged to Sir Abe Bailey.
Francois Geldenhuis bought the farm from Sir Bailey in 1946 and it was later
transfered to his son Alberto Geldenhuis.

MIDDELWATER

After an engineering career of thirty-eight years Dawie bought the family farm from his in-laws as a retirement project. He then reverted to basic, practical engineering with regard to farming projects.
